Jack and Jill

Today we learned about the nursery rhyme "Jack and Jill."  We learned that Jack fell down and broke his crown.  To help fix Jack, we colored Jack to work on our fine motor skills, and then we put bandaids on Jack's "boo-boos."

We learned to open the bandaids all by ourselves!

Jack is all better!

We had a great time learning about Jack and Jill today!

Little Bo Peep

Today, we learned all about the nursery rhyme "Little Bo Peep."  We talked about how sheep feel, and we even made a sheep.  Can your child act out the rhyme "Little Bo Peep?"

Also, we worked on writing our names.  Every day in kindergarten, for the first several weeks of school, we work on writing our names.  Student should be able to write their name with one capital letter at the beginning of their name, and small letters for the rest.  For example, I would write my name Kari Sharp.  Please work with your child on writing his or her name correctly.

Tonight is our Back to School Night.  I am so excited about meeting the parents of the children in my classroom!

Love,
Ms. Sharp

Humpty Dumpty

Yesterday our class learned about the Humpty Dumpty nursery rhyme.  We acted out Humpty Dumpty, and even made a Humpty Dumpty.  Can your child recite the Humpty Dumpty nursery rhyme?  We will be learning more about Humpty Dumpty when we have our whole class together very soon!

Love,
Ms. Sharp

Hey Diddle Diddle and Healthy Lunches

Today we learned about the nursery rhyme "Hey Diddle Diddle."  We painted a moon to work on motor skills.  We colored and cut out a cow so the cow could jump over the moon.  Can you say the "Hey Diddle Diddle" nursery rhyme?

Also today, I received an email from our school's health coordinator on healthy lunches and snacks that you can pack for your child.  Please feel free to check them out!  Click on the blue links above to see the sites.

Group C

On Wednesday, I was able to meet with Group C.  We had a wonderful time learning about school!  It was quickly determined by all of the students that "Tooty Ta" was a hit in our classroom!  What a fun year of learning we are going to have!

Group B Visits Kindergarten

Today I got to meet more members of our class.  We had a lot of fun singing songs, reading books, and playing on the playground.  The general consensus was that kindergarten was cool!  Group B decided that Dr. Jean's "Tarzan" and "Alligator Chant" were definitely their favorite songs today.  As soon as I get parental permission to post pictures, I will post pictures of our first days of kindergarten.

            I can't wait to meet Group C!

What does our classroom look like?

Below are some pictures of our classroom this year.  These were taken after the first day of kindergarten, so things are a little messy.  :)

Here is our cubby area.  We store our resting mats in our cubbies.

Above the cubbies, Ms. Sharp stores learning games, and supplies.

In our reading center, Ms. Sharp has our books arranged by genres, authors, or characters.

Here is a view of our classroom from the cubby area.

This is our Town Hall carpet area.  In Town Hall, we meet to discuss class business, or it is also a learning carpet.

A view from the front of our room.

A view of our reading corner.  Bookshelves line this whole wall.

Another view of our bookshelves.

What a wonderful year we are going to have!

First Day of Kindergarten!

Today was the first day of kindergarten for one-third of my students. We had a wonderful day! Today, we read Miss Bindergarten Gets Ready for Kindergarten. After reading the book, we made a class book of ways that we got ready for kindergarten. Many students got ready by finding their shoes, getting dressed, and getting their backpack. As soon as I get parental permission forms back from students, I will be posting pictures of our first day of kindergarten!

I'm so excited about our wonderful year!

Welcome to Our Blog!

Hello!  My name is Ms. Sharp, and I am a kindergarten teacher at Friendsville Elementary School.  This is my first experience as a blog poster, so I am excited about this new adventure.  I am creating the blog in order to better communicate with my students' parents about what we are doing in the classroom.  I will be updating the blog a couple of times a week, if not more.  Please check back frequently to see all we have learned in our classroom!
